📜 Description
Art glass goblet attributable to Murano Venetian production from the second half of the 20th century, characterized by a sculptural structure with a coiling serpent stem and a hemispherical bowl decorated with concentric polychrome patterns executed hot-worked. The piece belongs to the context of Murano glass production focused on decorative and plastic experimentation, in which the tradition of blown glass was reinterpreted through dynamic forms and visually striking figurative solutions. The central compositional element is the serpent applied in relief along the stem, transforming the goblet into an object poised between ornamental function and sculptural research. The wide and extremely thin bowl demonstrates a high level of technical craftsmanship, made even more remarkable by the extraordinary lightness of the piece, achieved through highly controlled glassblowing techniques. The polychrome spiral decoration, distributed across both the base and upper bowl, creates a continuous optical rhythm that follows the sinuous movement of the stem. The overall composition presents a theatrical and symbolic character, typical of certain Murano decorative productions intended for galleries, collectors, and refined interior settings during the 20th century.
📚 Historical-Artistic Note
Throughout the 20th century, Murano consolidated its central role in the international production of artistic glass through collaborations between master glassmakers, designers, and furnaces specializing in technical experimentation. Compositions featuring hot-applied zoomorphic elements such as serpents, fish, and fantastic creatures became especially popular between the 1960s and 1980s, a period during which Venetian tradition was reinterpreted with a more sculptural and decorative approach. The exceptional lightness of the glass, the fused polychrome cane work, and the structural complexity suggest a high-quality handcrafted production consistent with Murano artistic glassmaking of the period.
